Seller's Estimate: USD 0 - 0

Superman #1 (DC, 1939) CGC VG+ 4.5 Cream to off-white pages. Unrestored copies of this major key are very difficult to come by. We have never offered an unrestored copy graded better than 5.0, and the last time we saw one even in that grade was way back in 2007. Superman #1 arrived on newsstands barely a year after the Man of Steel's first appearance in Action Comics #1, to support his meteoric rise in popularity. Despite the estimated 1,000,000 copies that were printed in 1939, very few are known to have survived in this and higher grades. Just three copies have been certified as nice as FN 6.0 by CGC, only two as nice as VF 8.0, and none higher. It's currently ranked #3 on Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics list. We doubt that the Overstreet value will be enough to take this one home: earlier this year there was a verified sale of a CGC 4.0 copy for $299,000. Overstreet 2016 VG 4.0 value = $140,000. CGC census 11/16: 3 in 4.5, 9 higher.
